Road Eaters Running Clinic Session 10
It was 4 o'clock in the afternoon when members of the Road Eaters Running Club met in front of Villamor Hall, also known as the University Theatre at UP Diliman. Those who attended for the first time at UP were Lalaine, Gege, Jane, Jerome, and Don. Other attendees were Jemai, Kirk, Marvin, Jeff, Ray, and Josh.
While the afternoon sun was still up, they started shooting some videos for the Teaser Plug / Audio-Video Presentation for their upcoming Christmas Party. They had to rush it because the sun will set in just a short while.
Sunset came, so they looked for an area in the campus where it was well lighted. They chose the location where the oblation statue was located, because Christmas lights made the area bright.
Then the formal training started. Jerome led the core training while Josh took some video footage. Too bad, Jerome’s DSLR's battery was used up. Good thing, Josh brought his compact camera.
While everyone was busy on the different workouts, Josh called them one by one for the on-cam interview.
After the entire training, everyone had a chance to be in front of the camera and invited every club member to attend the Christmas Party to be held on December 22. Most of them had their take 2, take 3, and even take 4!
The day's activities concluded in an eating session at Rodics Diner.

Long Slow Distance Run: Sta. Rosa - Silang
1.2 to 1.6mm – the amount of rain forecast on that day of LSD. The interpretation was just light rains, however, the term “light” became subjective and the Road Eaters still pursue the run since everything is cocked and ready to fire (from the participants, support vehicle, and etc).
Upon arrival in Nuvali at 4am, surprisingly the rain stopped and they took the opportunity to warm up.
At 4:30 AM, they started to run. Marcelo, who is a local resident of Sta. Rosa, planned the route and lead the way of Road Eaters during the LSD.
Nuvali is a good place to train since the roads are clear. The signage says, “runners, bikers and cars share the roads at Nuvali”. It is also well lighted (at night), with flat, uphill and downhill road elevations. The man-made parks and executive villages are also very beautiful to see (and inspiring to have a house and live in one of them).
The Road Eaters used the Galloway method of running where they ran for 5 minutes and brisk walk for 1 minute, alternately. Jemai served as the timer so that they can follow the Galloway method.
When the sun has risen, it started to drizzle. Perfect way to cool down their bodies from the heat their body produced.
Along the race, they make fun of each other, throw jokes, did some catch up, and they happily greeted all runners and bikers “Good morning!” for good vibes.
As the cool breeze turned to strong winds, the clouds became heavier and darker, and the rain poured. It didn’t stop them from running.
Josh, Jemai, Kevin, Jerome, Ray, and Marcelo were training for 42K; while Jeff and Mico were training for 21K in the upcoming Run United Philippine Marathon. They took the rains as a challenge and special training since it might rain on the race day.
Not to mention, Mico, who just break-in into running, had his entire “first” in the LSD. First long run, first run in the rain, first knee aches, and etc!
After Nuvali, they took the Cardiac Hill challenge. A very steep hill for bikers but the Road Eaters took it as a training ground! Anyone will really have a cardiac arrest upon reaching the top.
While going down, they saw a grassy area, lie down and took a quick rest. The feeling was very relaxing as they felt the grass and the ground as their bed.
All in all, they ran for about 4 hours and 30 minutes. The GPS told them that they ran for almost 25K. Everyone was tired and hungry enough that they decided not to finish the planned route.
Of course, the LSD would not be complete without the eating session! They decided to have their “brunch” at Mang Inasal near Laguna Bel-Air.
The LSD marked the height of their training since it is just two weeks to go before the Run United Philippine Marathon. The mighty Road Eaters endured the extreme weather conditions safely and soundly.

Upon arrival in Nuvali at 4am, surprisingly the rain stopped and they took the opportunity to warm up.
Afterwards, they met some of Kevin’s friends – Mr. Craig and Mrs. Michelle Logan who used to live in U. S. but now living for about 25 years in the Philippines. Both of them are runners and the special thing about them is they always “drive” their son Justin (in a wheel chair) along the races they have joined.
At 4:30 AM, they started to run. Marcelo, who is a local resident of Sta. Rosa, planned the route and lead the way of Road Eaters during the LSD.

Long Slow Distance Run: Norzagaray-Bit-Bit River Part 3
On August 11, 2012, while doing some charity work at a foundation, the very first members of the Road Eaters Running Club met another soon-to-be-runner that initiated the operation of the club that we now have today.
After exactly one year, the number of members reached a total of 50.
To commemorate the anniversary of their friendship, and to continue to evolve into stronger runners, the Road Eaters decided to have a LSD run to the most familiar out-of-town place: Bit-Bit River.
The River Sings
sung by Enya on the slideshow
English Translation
Our words go beyond the moon.
Our words go into the shadows.
The river sings the endlessness.
We write of our journey through night.
We write in our aloneness.
We want to know the shape of eternity.

Long Slow Distance Run: Norzagaray-Bit-Bit River Part 2
LSD run was heavier the second time around.
A group of MALE runners and a fe-MALE ran their way up to Bit-Bit river and back to the town proper of Norzagaray, Bulacan for their 27-kilometer training.
Part of the training was to cross the rocky river. After the first half of the hard task, they had an enjoyable time wading in the river.
It was indeed painful running back to the town proper but certainly awesome, knowing that each one could help carry one's burden.

Trail Simulation Training Run: Timberland Heights and Nature Club
In preparation for The North Face 100 2013 Marathon in Baguio-Benguet, the Road Eaters took the road less-traveled in San Mateo, Rizal. 'Twas a refreshing way to get outdoors and explore nature, thanks to Wilbert and JL who led the team to this fun challenge. Obstacles such as uneven terrains, tree roots and bamboo bridges added to their strength program.

Long Slow Distance Run: Norzagaray-Bit-Bit River Part 1
"Get up, get up, get up!"
Road Eaters Sam, Jemai, Jeck, Jerome, MJ, and Kirk took advantage of the holiday as they kicked off their first LSD run to Bit-Bit river on an early Tuesday morning. It was a great practice for the upcoming TNF 100 marathon.
Coach Karlo led the team of barako runners to a phenomenal 13.5-kilometer uphill run to reach the river and the same 13.5-kilometer lane going back to the town proper of Norzagaray, Bulacan.
The stunning scenery was very appealing to the boys that they plunged into the river...
...and Coach Karlo was at that time, amazed as a spectator. XD
