Subic International Marathon 2013

After a day of splash at the Subic beach, cartwheels, and a game with a neon green identified flying object, still energy-filled Road Eaters had to wake up early from their VERY LATE night sleep.

Steamy cup noodles served as breakfast for those Eaters. Later on, they learned that it was not good to start a marathon.

Nice attire, Coach Wax!

As they left the resort, the internationally endorsed race course awaited them. Not the usual urban route, the Subic International Marathon 2013 was the first out-of-the-metro race for the Road Eaters. First time runners were Jessica and Rose for 10K.

All the girls were here!

Dreadlocked Marvin, in pursuit of his successful registration for this race, pioneered his entry into the Road Eaters Running Club by running his first-ever barefoot run.

It was an experience that was totally different. The race promised a cool view of nature and a lot of fresh air for the runners, but the uphills were not easy tasks especially for first time 21K runners Anjo and Saldy. One may feel apart from the other runners as the roads were wide and bat sounds were heard as they roam around. Scorching heat was unexpected at this time of the year that it proved to be burdensome.

After the race, foods such as hotdogs were given free. The girls of the 10K race had much of them.

Hot group photo!

After their replenishment at McDonald’s, they went back to the resort for a chill at the pool.

What's this? A pageant? XD

Race Results (updated on January 30, 2013):

Off to Kenny Rogers Roasters!

Terrific Subic Day 1

Leisure. Panoramic views. Cool breeze. The Road Eaters were surely excited to start the year because January 2013 was the running club’s FIRST OUT-OF-TOWN adventure! They were not just into running… they were also into something! BEACHES! Yes! Just pronounce it with a long ‘ee’ pleeeeeaase.

It’s January but it’s HOT!
Literally. No kidding.
Welcome to the place called Subic.

In the morning of January 26th, all fourteen Road Eaters who signed up for the Subic International Marathon 2013 were present and had their first stop at Starbucks somewhere in Quezon City and their first carbo-loading at Jollibee. The group was divided into two. Van A was loaded with happy children while Van B with some serious stuffs that made NLEX reeeeaaally long like it’s not gonna end. Only Saldy of Van B tried to break the silence by disturbing Jemai’s sleep.

At last, when they reached Subic, two rooms were already reserved for their occupancy at Ocean View Beach Resort Hotel. Great scenery. Loved the ambiance.

They visited Harbor Point. Eating was one of the signature moves of the club (that’s why they were called Road Eaters). However, they couldn't really make it fast at Pepper Lunch because the meals were exaggeratedly topped with pepper! No wonder why Kevin didn't enjoy his meal. Maybe if there was a prize…

They shopped at Puregold and the club sponsored bottles of Gatorade and Snickers! When they came back to the hotel, there was no electricity. Unpaid bills? Hahaha! No, it was just common in that place. Not so sure if the whole city was affected. They decided to go swimming when the lights went on. The happiest part -- they hit the beach! It was like an early summer vacation. The boys formed their own Frisbee team. The girls could have become the cheer dancers. And Josh was busy taking photos.

The boys' hilarious cartwheels

Being buried under the sand was never relaxing. Why? Because of THAT multipurpose Frisbee that kept on flying on top of her!

Later on, she became an instant sand mermaid.
Engraved on her sandy scales was the name of the
MOST HILARIOUS RUNNING CLUB IN THE PHILIPPINES.

Dusk. But the fun continued.

Boys again.
Where were the girls?

Ah, there. Lovely.

Another eating spree for dinner! Because it had to be fast, some of them accidentally ate half-cooked hotdogs! Some parts were still frozen.

Pretty pout, Saldy.

They didn't just do running and eating exercises. They had some mental exercises too a little less than 10 hours before the run the next day. If only those cards were real money and property…

Expression of the Day: "Meron kayong lotion?" (10x)

 ("Do you have lotion?")

Uphill Run Training: McKinley Hill

In preparation for the upcoming Subic International Marathon 2013, ardent Road Eaters proved that nothing could stop them to become competitive in the much-awaited race. Somewhere around the busy metro, there was a cool uphill place to train!
